It was hard to select which items are my favorites since there are a lot of free services and program out there. On my latest laptop, I am trying to use only free stuff. Google Apps seem to win out in many ways.

  1. Google Bookmarks: It is great tool for multiple computers. You can check your bookmarks from the web on any computer or with Google Toolbar on Internet Explorer and Firefox. It is handy for multiple users on the same computer. I setup my work laptop so that I have to login each time. That way I can setup multiple accounts for both work and home but still have access to both.
  2. Google Toolbar: It is available r for both Internet Explorer and Firefox. It has the option to add Google Bookmarks for easy access. There is also search and many other options that can be added.
  3. Logmein: The free version is great. It allows you access your computers from any computer connected to the Internet. Setup is easy and quick. Makes working from home easy. There is also a Pro version for a fee which adds to the features.
  4. Foldershare : Allow you to sync folders on multiple computers on the Internet. It was acquired by Microsoft and soon linked with Microsoft live. By adding folders to Foldershare you can access the same files at home or at work.
  5. IDrive: Get 2 G for free. This service is great for backing up your files which I highly recommend on regular basis. There is a monthly or yearly fee for the Pro version which gives you unlimited storage.
  6. Google Desktop search: I use the Enterprise version which has add-in for Lotus Notes which is the email system that my company uses. It allows you to search for any files or messages on your computers. Network drives can also be added.
  7. OpenOffice: It is a great alternative to MS Office. Can be used create or open documents, spreadsheets, create presentation and simple databases.
  8. Firefox: It is my favorite browser. Fast and can be customized with Themes and extensions. Google Toolbar with Google Bookmarks can be added. Works with Logmein. For advanced users there even more options to change features in the way Firefox works. There is also a portable version so that it can be accessed from a USB flash drive.
  9. Thunderbird: Is a great program for managing emails. There is also a portable version so that it can be accessed from a USB flash drive.
  10. Google Docs : This is a great place to upload or create documents. It allows you access your documents from anywhere that is connected to the Internet.
